Well Done Katie Taylor!

“Champions aren’t made in the gyms. Champions are made from something they have deep inside them — a desire, a dream, a vision.” – Muhammad Ali

Yay! Ireland now has a gold medal from the olympics, thanks to Katie Taylor (fyi, she’s a boxer, in case you didn’t know, in which case you should be very ashamed)!! She beat the Russian woman Sofya Ochigava and now is the first woman ever to win a gold medal in her category (women’s boxing was only included in the olympics this year). Among the people watching the match were Kate Middleton and British Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg. According to someone sitting nearby, Kate didn’t know the words to “The Fields of Athenry”. Shock! Horror!

Here is Ireland’s current medal table.

Medal Name Sport Event Date
Gold Katie Taylor[1] Boxing Women’s lightweight  9 August
Bronze Cian O’Connor[2] Equestrian Individual jumping 8 August
Bronze Paddy Barnes Boxing Men’s light flyweight 10 August
Bronze Michael Conlan Boxing Men’s flyweight 10 August

Tornado in Donegal!

Met Eireann (Ireland’s weather forecasting service) predicted chances of a tornado in Donegal (North-West Ireland) yesterday. I don’t think there actually was one but apparently there was freaky weather there and some people took pictures (see below). This comes after the four magnitude earthquake which struck off the coast of Mayo (West Ireland) a couple of days ago. What’s next? A tsunami in Kerry (South of Ireland)? A flood in Wicklow (East Ireland)?

Yay! Summer!

Soooooooo loving this weeks GORGEOUS weather here in Dublin! 20°C with a light breeze and the sun shining high in the sky. Summer’s finally here! Today, every single girl in my entire school was lying out on the lawn behind our school at lunch. PARADISE. Sure we all got grass stains on our uniform, but they’re green so it doesn’t really matter… Let’s hope this wonderful weather lasts and lasts! (unfortunately its forecast to end at the weekend, but I’d rather not think about that yet)

Eurovision 2012

I was absolutely hooked on Eurovision tonight.

OMG I AM SOOOOOOO HAPPY THAT JEDWARD GOT IN!!!! Thank you so much to all the people who voted them in! For those of you who didn’t watch it, in this evening’s semi-finals there were 10 spots in the Eurovision final (which is on Saturday night) and Jedward (Ireland’s entry, woop!) got the coveted 10th spot, i.e. the last spot! In the words of London Tipton (from the Suite Life of Zack and Cody, btw) Yay Ireland! (Yeah so I changed it a bit from the original but who cares?!)

I also loved Russia’s entry, the Buranovskiye Babushki (a.k.a. the Russian grannies)
