And now for something completely different. I haven’t done something like this in a while. So, take a break from my constant YouTube videos, Polyvore posts and music tracks and give this a read! As the title suggests, this is a compilation of some of my favourite apps on the App Store. They’re all for iPod Touch/ iPhone (I have 5th Gen. Product Red iTouch, 32gb). And please keep in mind that I am a teenage girl, which is why there aren’t really any highly practical apps, or ones that cost more than 89c, because my funds are pretty limited. I’m also not gonna include stuff like Facebook and Gmail, cause that stuff’s pretty basic. Anyhoo, here they are, in no particular order!
1. Band of the Day
I think I’ve mentioned it before. Band of the Day is pretty much what its name suggests. Every single day, the app introduces you to a new band/singer and gives you their bio, some songs worth listening to and some samples of their tracks. The artists stretch across all genres, but there’s a lot of indie and alternative. Even though you mightn’t like every artist, it’s great for discovering hidden gems. It also has a calendar feature, which allows you to look back over past featured artists. Oh, and it’s free.
2. Apps Gone Free
The people at Apps Gone Free are pretty great. Every day, they ask app developers to make a paid app go free for a limited time. The app refresh every day bringing you more free apps that you’d normally have to pay for! They give you a bio on the app(s) and give a direct link to download it from the App Store. Apps Gone Free can give you up to seven free apps a day, and has a long history where you can look back through months and months of apps that were previously free (sometimes some of them are even still free!). It’s an awesome app for finding great free apps on the App Store! I really recommend it 🙂
Do you want to learn a new language? Well Duolingo is for you. It’s a fab free app (I think there might be a website too?) where you can learn English, Spanish, Italian, French, German or Portugese for absolutely no cost at all! If you stick with it, you’ll learn more than the basics. It’s taught though pictures and voiceovers and it’s actually pretty fun too! However, it does push you to do a little bit every day, which can be quite difficult! I started learning Italian in June, but I got lazy and stopped around ‘il ragazzo mangia il pane’ (the boy eats bread). But I’m gonna try picking it up again… We’ll just have to wait and see how that goes!
Some of you may have heard of this before. Cheezburger is one of my main sources for memes and LOLs in general (I have an unexplainable obsession with memes). It requires an internet connection, but once you’re in, there is an endless collection of funny pictures to brighten up your day 🙂 It gives you shortcuts to many other pages within the app, some of my favourites being GraphJam, Failbook and Music Fails. Give it a try, you’ll thank me 😉
5. App Bundle 2
So this is the only paid app so far, but I honestly think it’s worth the 89c! It gives you access to 250 apps within it, so basically you’re getting 250 for the price of 1! OK so maybe they’re not all top of the range apps, but there is a lot of fun stuff on it, and it is a really good buy 🙂 There’s everything from a torch to timers to a budget tracker or X’s and O’s (Tic Tac Toe) to camera filters and pretend broken screens and air horns. You get the picture. There’s a lot of stuff on this app.
So this post is getting kinda long (641 words at the moment – this is most likely the longest post I have ever, and will ever post) so I’m just gonna make a list of some other apps I love:
I have this addiction to camera apps, so these are my editing/filter/collage apps:
- Fotoyaki (you can make a mosaic out of all the photos in your library, it’s pretty cool, even when you have over 1,500 like me 😉 )
- Photo Editor- (probably my favourite)
- A Beautiful Mess (89c but I love it)
- Pic Collage (collages, baby :D)
- Camwow Free and Camwow Retro (Filters and effects for when you’re actually taking the pictures, not editing after)
And here are some other ones that are pretty basic, but I use the most!
- RTE Player
- TuneIn Radio
- We Heart It
So yeah, hope I’ve been of help to some of you, and happy apping! (yes I did just make up a word)
